Indian National Congress' MP, P Chidambaram and State President Azhagiri also campaigned along with A V Velu at Karumathampatti Four Roads junction supporting Pongalur Palanisamy. Addressing the gathering, A V Velu said, “When former Central Minister, P Chidambaram used to sing Thiruvalluvar’s Thirukkural while beginning his speech in Parliament, Tamil was glorified there. Now, here, the Sulur by-election is a contest between democracy and money. When the DMK-Congress alliance contested in the 2004 election, we won in all 40 constituencies. Currently, DMK has a coalition with the Congress. Hence, we will win again in all 40 constituencies. It was M K Stalin who proposed Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Ministerial candidate first. After May 23, Rahul Gandhi will be the Prime Minister. Vote for the 'Rising Sun' symbol to change the current regime that has looted lots of money," urged A V Velu.
"Power loom owners gave a petition to Kalaignar to cancel taxes the last time we came here for a campaign, in 2004. That tax was cancelled, later. There are 1.25 lakh power looms and a large community of power loom workers in Sulur. They have requested to establish the textile market, here. When a proper government is formed, a team will be formed with the help of the Central government and necessary action will be taken on the proposal of that team for the benefit of power loom workers," assured A V Velu.
"Our coalition party’s candidate will win in the Coimbatore parliament election when the result comes. We are meeting people in person. We are constantly insisting that the government ought to conduct a local body election, but is Minister Velumani ready to conduct the local body election? He is postponing the election because power will go to the hands of local body presidents, if the election is conducted. The bulbs which are fixed in Panchayats, Municipalities and Corporations cost just Rs.1500 but they are billing it as Rs.4500. Likewise, they have looted money in crores in Tamil Nadu. Power of money will not win here. How muchever they spend, only DMK will win here,” he added.
